Women Creating Wealth (WCW) – Women in Agribusiness 2021

WCW is a Pan African women’s entrepreneurship accelerator programme with goal strengthen the skills and confidence of women entrepreneurs to overcome their challenges and growth barriers and graduate their business from income generation to wealth creation enterprises. 

To date, 400 high growth entrepreneurs have been selected and successfully graduated from the programme in Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and South Africa.

The purpose of the U.S. – Africa Tech Challenge is to advance the development of promising technologies that offer innovative solutions to help expose, understand, or counter propaganda and disinformation within Africa.

Phase I of the Challenge provides an opportunity for organizations to submit an application on their technology to be reviewed by a panel of evaluators who will select up to eight participants. The eight selected participants will be invited to present their tool at a virtual technology demonstration in April 2021. Up to three participants will be chosen to receive an award between 50,000-250,000 USD.

Phase II of the Challenge will be held virtually on the margins of Informa’s East Africa Com on 11-12 May 2021. It will consist of virtual panel discussions and networking with technologists, governments, civil society, and media to share lessons learned and opportunities around countering disinformation. The eight participants from Phase I will all be invited to Phase II.

Metta in partnership with the UK-Kenya Tech Hub presents the Startup-SME linkage program 2.0 aimed at providing tech startups direct linkages to SMEs which fall under their target customers for a chance to secure a commercial deal.

The program will require selected startups to present/demo their solutions to SMEs in a digital live marketplace for a partnership or commercialization deal.

Black Ambition acknowledges the pathway to capital for talented entrepreneurs has not been equitable. Our objective is to help change that and to open opportunity to ideas that will shape the future. The Black Ambition Prize is a tiered opportunity to compete for $1,000,000 and learn with a network of talented founders and business leaders across sectors. Multiple teams will also be selected for funding at different levels. Prizes will be awarded as cash and, in some instances, investments. Any earnings from investments will be used to support Black Ambition’s ability to offer Prizes to future entrepreneurs.

The UCT GSB Solution Space E-Track Programme in Partnership with the MTN Group is a three-part new-venture acceleration and a capacity building programme for high impact individuals at the University of Cape Town. With a high-touch scale-up process; the programme is designed to support teams build scalable businesses with international potential. MEST, in partnership with Mastercard Foundation’s Young Africa Works, is currently accepting applications for the first 2021 cohort of its newly-launched MEST Express accelerator. The program offers free training, mentorship, resources and support to participating startups, as well as the opportunity to receive up to $20,000 in equity-free grant funding.

Launched in September 2020, in response to the impact of COVID-19 on early-stage ventures, MEST Express is a program aimed at technology startups operating in Ghana. The goal of the accelerator is to equip early-stage tech startups with the necessary skills and resources to weather the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Julia Taft Fund for Refugees is an initiative by the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) to respond to critical unmet needs of refugees. Created in 2000, the Julia Taft Fund for Refugees supports projects that fill gaps in refugee services not already being addressed by other organizations and that can be filled locally.  Successful projects are those that are not being addressed by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), other international organizations, or non-governmental organizations (NGOs), that are already receiving U.S. government funding.
